Apron Free Cooking ~ Easy Beef Stew to Beat the Cold

Syndicated Column from the week of October 7, 2012. Published in the Galion Inqiurer on October 10, 2012.   Temperatures are dropping into the 30s overnight. The leaves are dropping from the trees. The animals are getting fuzzy with winter coats. Soon it will be time to turn the furnace on instead of just adding another blanket to the bed. We were talking about prepping the house for winter the other day and there are a few things to do yet. We need to bring in the wicker porch furniture and garden hose. We’ll most likely have to run the mower a few more times to mulch the dropped leaves. Take a look around your yard, I’ll bet you have some similar chores. We plan to take advantage of these moderate October days to work on that list. It’s one thing to work on the winter prep list when the weather is cool and quite another if we wait too long and those days turn into damp and miserable! Creamy Pasta Salad ~ Recipe

Prep Time : 10 min Cook Time : 20 min Ready Time : 30 min Ingredients 1 box Pasta 1 package Peas and Carrots 1 bottle Ranch Dressing 2 cups Cheddar Cheese shredded Directions Prepare pasta according to package directions. Boil and drain frozen vegetables. Rinse vegetables and pasta in cold water. Toss with dressing and cheese. Chill and serve. Dump It In Cake ~ Recipe

Prep Time : 5 min Cook Time : 50 min Ready Time : 55 min Ingredients 1 can Pie Filling I used cherry 1 can Fruit in Syrup I used pineapple 1 box Yellow Cake Mix 1 stick Butter Directions Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Spread pie filling in the bottom of 9×13 baking pan. Pour fruit with syrup on top. Shake cake mix evenly over fruit. Melt butter and pour over cake mix.
