My book searches in vintage and thrift stores often turn up gems!
I found this 1961 copy of Amy Vanderbilt’s Complete Cookbook at one of my regular stops.
Many people know who Emily Post is and hold her as the foremost authority on etiquette. The Vanderbilt family is known for elegance and wealth. What many people don’t realize is that Amy Vanderbilt was an expert on etiquette, also.
The Encyclopedia Brittanica has this to say about Amy Vanderbilt:
“Called “the successor toEmily Post,” Vanderbilt was the hostess of a television etiquette show, It’s in Good Taste, from 1954 to 1960 and had a radio show, The Right Thing To Do, from 1960 to 1962. She served as official etiquette consultant for a number of agencies and organizations, including the U.S. Department of State. In addition to her book on etiquette, Vanderbilt also wrote books on “everyday etiquette” and cooking.” Read more about Amy by clicking here.
