Personal Mini Smoked Salmon Cheese Ball — 22 Comments

    • Jennifer … sometimes we don’t need to share! It’s nice to have the excuse that “my cheese ball isn’t big enough to share” and not stab people with the fork!

    • Lydia,
I’ve been thinking about all the possible cheese ball recipes I have an what a neat appetizer tray I could make if I made a whole variety!

But I need to buy one of those small ice cream scoops. That will make forming the balls so much easier!

  1. What a lovely and easy idea for nibbles. I’ve been looking for recipes that use liquid smoke, as while I love it I’ve only used it on steak so far, so will give this a shot over the hols.

    • Carolyn,
A word of caution, start out with small bits of Liquid Smoke in your mixture if you’re not certain you love the flavor – much easier to turn up the flavor w/ more smoke than take out “too much”.

  2. Mini cheese balls – this sounds like my kind of food! I’ve also been trying to figure out what to do with my liquid smoke – I bought it thinking it would be fun to play with but hadn’t known what to with it yet

    • Sarah,
Please do give it a try – but see the note I shared with Carolyn above …
And try it in some soups, on grilled meats, in dips … I actually use it a fair amount, because I don’t own a smoker and the time I tried to get smoke flavor from the grill just turned into a neighborhood watch party.

    • Tamara,
If you add these to your tapas party menu, call me, I’ll be right over to help you … eat … I mean, entertain … lol

You’re right, they would be a great addition, even if you use your own recipe, use this serving idea and they’ll be a hit!

  3. I’ve always loved salmon cheese balls since I was a kid. I like mine with horseradish and rolled in toasted pecans. I thought I might try adding capers, too. I know not everyone loves nuts, horseradish, or capers though, so making a variety of mini balls is such a great idea! And I can let people know what’s inside by rolling them in different coating like you did. Thanks for the simple but ingenious idea!
