Blueberry Strawberry Shortcake

Grandma's vintage recipe for home baked shortcakes is perfect when topped with fresh fruit.

Ingredients

  • 2 cup All purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp Sugar
  • 4 tsp Baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 3 tbsp Shortening (Butter or Margarine)
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/2 cup Milk

Topping

  • 1 pound Strawberries
  • 1/2 pound Blueberries

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and grease a muffin tin.

  2. Sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. 

  3. Cut in the shortening. 

  4. Beat the egg and add with the milk.

  5. Stir until just mixed.

  6. Drop into muffin tins.

  7. Bake about 30 minutes or until golden on top and toothpick inserted comes out clean.

  8. While shortcake is cooling, slice the strawberries and mix with blueberries.
